Lingering memories
My kitchen will never be the same now that my young Khmer friends have returned home after completing a two year scholarship at Latrobe Uni. The pantry shelves linger with the aroma of coriander, ginger & lemongrass, evoking fond memories of my time spent in Cambodia before the tiny Kingdom became a popular tourist destination.
Can’t wait to return. Of course, I’m a bit older these days, but lifestyle magazines tell us that the 40’s are the new 20’s; the 60’s are the new 40’s and so on. I reckon by those calculations I should be in my youngish 50’s. But before I start packing the suitcase and trawling the travel sites for cheap airfares, I need to dust the cobwebs from the brain cells and brush up on my somewhat, limited language skills. A good excuse to head on down to the Springvale Temple for the Khmer New Year celebrations. A must for anyone interested in experiencing this wonderful culture.
In the meantime, need to update travel injections. But that’s another story.
